05-102-553-2MARCLONG-TERM, HIGH RESOLUTION NUTRIENT AND SEDIMENT MONITORING AND CHARACTERIZING IN-STREAM PRIMARY PRODUCTION1The study area includes the Pajaro River and its five tributaries that drain the course of about eight miles in an agricultural area known as Soap Lake. These tributaries include the Uvas and Llagas Creeks draining from the north, Millers Canal from the east, and the San Benito Rive and San Juan Creeks from the south.Several sites were sampled regularly to characterize sediment and nutrient loads by watersheds. Turbidity Threshold Sampling (TSS) was employed to determine the relative predictive strength between a discharge-sediment versus a turbidity-sediment relationship. Several measures of algal abundance and nutrients were compared with published benchmarks and benchmarks derived from data throughout the western United States. This project was designed to address and support the TMDL process, the agricultural discharge waiver program, and the non-point source pollution control program with three goals;1.Better describe the spatial and temporal hydrologic sources of nutrients and sediment in the watershed;2.Assess the controls of stream eutrophication; and 3.Support grower watershed working groups and individual grower efforts to improve water quality.2006-01-01 00:00:0024 months22322222000000000000010001010000000000000MarcLosHuertos(831) 582-3209mloshuertos@csumb.edumloshuertos@csumb.edumloshuertos@csumb.eduKworcester@waterboards.ca.govKworcester@waterboards.ca.govKristymorr@gmail.comkristymorr@gmail.comCalifornia State University Monterey BaySEP, Bldg 53, 100 Campus CenterSeaside1939550http://home.csumb.edu/l/loshuertosmarc/world/10000002010-05-26 10:38:362009-10-14 11:03:1013
